Communication plays a large part in our daily lives. It has been defined by Newman and Summer as “an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions or emotions by two or more persons.” It is the process of passing information from one person to another.

Communication helps people understand one another and brings them closer together. It initiates relationships and acts as a tool to aid mutual understanding.

In an organisation communication facilitates the flow of information between different departments. Keep in mind that communication is not just what you say or what you write, non-verbal communication is also a huge factor such as tone of voice and your body language.

Once the session is completed, you will be able to describe the different types of communication, identify appropriate strategies to use and apply the knowledge learned to create effective communication.

Learning Objectives:
● Describe the different types of communication.
● Identify appropriate strategies to use; and
● Apply the knowledge learned to create effective communication.
