What is kelp?

Kelp. is your dedicated online learning platform designed specifically for yachting professionals, including yacht crew and land-based professionals such as those working in management companies, shipyards and corporate offices. We provide a range of digital learning experiences, tools for managing your professional development, and methods for tracking your progress and assessing your skills.

Who is kelp for?

Kelp. is tailored to support the skills development of yacht crew and corporate professionals such as those working in management companies, shipyards or other land-based positions, as well as Vessels, and Fleets/Organisations.

How much does kelp.Crew cost?

Kelp. offers various subscriptions, including online-only access and enhanced packages that include live training for yacht professionals at every stage of their career. We have options for individual crew members, as well as bespoke options for vessels, fleets and corporate clients. How do I access the courses?

Once you sign up for a kelp.Crew subscription, you’ll have instant access to all our courses online. You can learn at your own pace, anytime, anywhere, on any device.

What payment methods do you accept?

Kelp. accepts a variety of secure payment methods, including major credit and debit cards, PayPal, and BACS transfers. We currently process transactions in both British Pounds (£) and Euros (€).

Are Kelp. courses self-paced or instructor-led?

Kelp. offers a mix of both self-paced courses, allowing you to learn at your own speed, and instructor-led elements within our enhanced packages, depending on the specific programme you enrol in.

What if I want to upgrade to a different level?

Individuals, vessels & fleet customers are able to upgrade their membership to a higher tier at any time. Simply pay the difference in fees and gain immediate access to advanced training programs. As live training is heavily discounted within the subscription, we are unable to downgrade subscriptions once the term has started. To discuss an upgrade, contact support@kelp.yachts.

Can I access training content on mobile devices?

Yes! All Kelp online training content is fully optimized for mobile, tablet, and desktop devices, allowing you to learn wherever and whenever it suits you best

Will I receive certifications for completing courses?

Yes. Certificates are awarded upon the completion of specific training programs and curriculums. This might include one long course or a collection of smaller programs within a particular category. These certificates may also include relevant accreditations, such as IAMI GUEST certification or CPD (Continuing Professional Development) certification, where applicable.

Certificates and applicable accreditations are included as part of your training program subscription fee and are at no additional cost to you.

How do I book live training courses?

For Curriculums which include a ‘live training’ element, dates will be available to book directly via the kelp platform. Simply navigate to ‘Live Training’ within the Course Catalog, select your preferred date and enroll. Please note places are strictly limited for our live training programs. If you need to change your date, you can do this within the platform, however for our popular courses there is a deadline before the course in which you are able to cancel.

Is this content only yachting based?

We have a broad range of yachting specific content, alongside a vast range of wider skills, applicable in your yachting career or land-based position. This includes things like Artificial Intellience, Data & Cyber, Software Programs, Communication Skills, Health & Safety, Human Resources, Sales, Functional Maths Skills, and more.

Who can I contact for support?

Are there any prerequisites for the courses?

Prerequisites vary depending on the course. You can find information on prerequisites on each course page.

Can I suggest new training topics or programs?

Absolutely! We value feedback from our community. If there’s a particular skill, course, or certification you’d like to see offered, you can submit a suggestion through the Kelp platform. Our team continually reviews requests to expand and update our training library. Please contact hello@kelp.yachts with any suggestions.

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

Annual Subscriptions: Refunds are only provided if cancellation is requested within 48 hours of your initial purchase of an annual subscription, providing no training has commenced.

Three-Year Subscriptions: As these plans offer a significant discount for the longer commitment, no refunds will be issued for cancellations of three-year subscriptions

Crew: What happens if you leave a boat?

If you leave a vessel or fleet before the end of the subscription term, you will be able to complete any ongoing live training but will not be able to start new live sessions. You will retain full access to your online training content and all of the non-live programs until the end of the calendar year. Your account will not automatically renew unless you choose to switch to an Individual subscription.

Vessels: What happens if a crew member leaves your boat?

If a crew member leaves a vessel with an active subscription before the end of the subscription term, they will be able to complete any ongoing live training but will not be able to start new live training.

The vessel or fleet will automatically be issued a new license for the remainder of the subscription term, which can be allocated to a new crew member joining the boat.

Is my personal information secure?

Yes, we take data security very seriously. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information.

What if I forget my password?

You can reset your password through the “Forgotten Password” link on the login page.

Can I access the courses offline?

Currently, our courses are designed to be accessed online. However, we are exploring options for offline access in the future.

Can I track my progress?

Absolutely! kelp.’s platform allows you to easily track your progress through each course. You can see which modules you’ve completed, what’s coming up next, and celebrate your achievements.
