In a nutshell, if your workplace has any kind of responsibility for other people, then you are required to complete a risk assessment, this is crucial for the safety of the individuals in the workplace.

In order to carry out a risk assessment, you need to distinguish the hazards in your workspace, moreover, you need to identify how these hazards can be either eliminated or to find a way whereby you can reduce the risk of harm or injury.

Once you’ve established the risks and how to avoid them, or even better; eliminate them, you need to write them down and share them with the individuals in that workspace, and it is absolutely crucial that you make individuals read and understand them, as it’s your responsibility. A risk assessment at times is evaluated in the form of a toolbox talk, moreover it’s important these risks are constantly reviewed.

It is essential that a risk assessment must be displayed in a manner where there’s no ambiguity, where staff can follow instructions and respond appropriately on the actual assessment.

The elimination of the risk is always the number one goal, however, at times that may be costly, so there may be other various options for control measures that have a smaller cost implication.
