Being treated less favourably is known as discrimination – this is when someone is treated unfairly based on any of the protected characteristics under the law, the Equality Act 2010. These characteristics include Age, Disability, Gender Reassignment, Marriage or Civil Partnership, Pregnancy and Maternity, Race, Religion or Beliefs, Sex and Sexual Orientation.
