Describe How The Cycle Time Of A Process Can Be Defined

Subscribe Now

No matter what the organisation is, every organisation runs by performing a series of processes, you might think of it as your routine. Each process, big or small, takes in the inputs to produce the outputs; a large process may include several smaller processes or operations to achieve the desired end product. Every process, big or small, has something called cycle time; which is the amount of time from start to completion of that process. You might know all of this, but the key here is that, this feeds into problem solving exploration. This leads us to something called line balancing, which is the process of balancing cycle times to customer demand; customer demand is known as track time.

In essence, line balancing is a means to distribute work content to balance the cycle time to customer demand, by transferring work from overloaded to underloaded operators. Standard operating procedures ensure the most effective, efficient, and safe method for carrying out an operation/process, and the time taken is always the factor that determines how successful the process is. Think of it as Kaizen, which is an approach to creating continuous improvement, based on the premise that ongoing small changes can create significant improvements.

Learning Objectives:
•Outline what the pure meaning of a process is.
•Asses the meaning of cycle time and balancing line
